2021 IBC & 2017 ICC A117.1 Accessibility Update

This class will review the revisions to the 2021 International Building Code and the 2017 ICC A117.1 Accessibility requirements. The discussion will include the turning space and clear floor space requirement that will have a significant impact on new buildings. We will also discuss the new requirements for automatic doors, motor vehicle related facilities and assisted toileting and bathing facilities. The background behind the changes will be provided.

  • Attendees will understand the changes to the International Building Code regarding accessible design.
  • Attendees will understand the changes to the ICC A117..1 Standard for Accessible Design.
  • Attendees will learn the background behind the changes.
  • Attendees will understand how to apply the new requirements to their building design.

Meet The Presenter: 

Mr. Thomas has over forty years’ experience in working with building codes including plan reviews, inspections and administration. His firm provides building code consulting services for governmental agencies and architectural firms, as well as educational seminars on building codes across the country.  Working for a building code-consulting firm since 1999, he has served as the contract Building Official for different local jurisdictions in Colorado.  Mr. Thomas has served on several ICBO and ICC committees including serving as a member and then Chairman of the ICC Means of Egress Code Development Committee. He was named an honorary member of ICC in 2021. He is also the author of the book, Building Code Basics, based on the 2009 & 2012 IBC and Building Code Essentials based on the 2015 & 2018 IBC, both available from ICC. He and his previous firm, Colorado Code Consulting were awarded the Educator of the Year Award by the ICC in 2018. He has presented building code classes for the last 35 years and provides an interesting and engaging look at building codes.

 


Registration Fees (per person): Registration deadline is January 24th!

OBOA or OFMA Member: $150 per class
Non-Member: $300 per class

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Cancellations received on or before January 13 will receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative processing fee. Cancellations received after January 13, no shows and same day cancellations will not receive a refund. There is no refund or credit given for partial attendance (attendees must attend full time for any CEUs). Substitutions from the same jurisdiction/company may be made -- they must be communicated in advance in writing to OBOA to ensure accurate reporting.
