About our Keynote Presenter: Micha
el has a unique blend of experience in government relations and traditional
law practice, which enables him to advise clients politically through a le
gal lens. His practice focuses on representing clients before all levels of
elected and appointed government entities in Oregon. He has extensive expe
rience representing large municipalities, national corporations, institutio
ns of higher education, and non-profits on a variety of policy issues. This
broad scope has allowed Michael to create relationships with a diverse ran
ge of elected officials and stakeholders over the years. In his practice, h
e prides himself on the relationships he's built with elected officials and
stakeholders and relishes taking the time to gain a deep understanding of
the issues on which he is advocating. He believes it’s just as important to
understand your opposition’s position as it is to understand your client’s
. Because of that, Michael's practice is research focused, detail oriented,
and relationship based.
Michael also has extensive experience working in government relati
ons in Oregon, in addition to experience working as an associate attorney f
or a Portland-based law firm specializing in business and real estate matte
rs. He's previously served as the Director of Legislative Policy for one of
Oregon’s largest trade associations. In that role, he was responsible for
helping set the association’s legislative priorities, communicating those p
riorities to members throughout the state, and representing the large membe
r organization before the Oregon Legislative Assembly and various state age
ncies. Working in-house, Michael has experienced what it’s like managing a
contract lobbyist and what clients expect and value. Michael was b
orn and raised in Oregon and comes from a long line of dairy farmers and tr
uck drivers. He currently lives in Salem with his wife, daughter, son,
and loves being a part of a changing city. Outside of work, he and his
wife spend his time chasing kids around and showing them as much of Oregon
as possible. You’ll also see them tirelessly rooting for Oregon State athl
etics through the good and the bad.

recruit for members and explain your goals for 2022 (and/or ask for input
from the OBOA membership as we know some committee work has been on hiatus
during covid).

. Only registered attendees will be admitted to attend the meeting; Zoom ac
cess details may not be shared. If the person registered is no longer able

r CEU purposes).
IMPORTANT: Upon entry

<

ed and may affect credit verification.
