OBOA Educational Institute — Important Details & Info

Please read through this entire page to familiarize yourself with the logistics of attending an OBOA webinar. Review PRIOR to joining class to ensure a smooth program.

Webinar Instructions & Recommendations – REVIEW IN ADVANCE

Upon registration on the OBOA website, each attendee will receive a confirmation email with their class selections; keep this for your records. Two days prior to the class, participants will receive a separate very important "Know Before You Go" email that contains a unique Zoom login, access codes, and other class handouts or materials that must be reviewed prior to the class.

PRIOR TO joining the webinar, verify the following:

  • Device: Attendees are accessing the meeting from a laptop, computer, tablet, or other device that has capability for viewing the instructor video and screen/slides (phones strongly discouraged).
  • Wi-Fi: Attendees must have a secure high-speed internet connection for the duration of the class. Wired connections are recommended.
  • Name (this is very important): Prior to the class, go to your "Zoom Profile" settings to ensure your name is listed correct. Each participant MUST have their name set with their First and Last Name (ex: John Smith). Nicknames or phone numbers will not be admitted--no exceptions. This is for security purposes and will be strictly enforced. Read detailed Zoom instructions here to edit your settings.
  • Audio: Attendee microphones will be automatically muted.
  • Video: Do NOT join with video -- participants should remain off video by default. Attendees may request to enable video (to ask the speaker a question instead of type). Simply send a chat message asking to "Start Video" (for security, the host must first enable).
  • Joining the meeting: Upon joining, all participants will be placed in a Waiting Room. Unrecognized names, abbreviations, and phone numbers will not be admitted. "Doors" will open just prior to the start time.
  • Attendance tracking: Each attendee must view/access the webinar from their own device (do not share or log on with another individual, even if they are also registered). Attendance credit will only be given to each registrant who joins and leaves the meeting.
  • Split sessions: For any classes that span two days, the login credentials will be the same both sessions. Login details will be emailed to class attendees two days prior to the class (with handout and other materials).
  • OBOA does not have any control over any attendee's virtual class experience due to the nature of online videoconferencing. We strongly encourage each participant to test all device and Zoom settings prior to the class (ensuring video and audio are set as desired) as tech support will not be available.

International Code Council Preferred Provider Program Continuing Education Credit (ICC PPP CEUs)

OBOA is an approved International Code Council (ICC) Preferred Provider. The Preferred Provider Program recognizes and promotes ICC-approved educational offerings as they relate to codes, standards and guidelines, as well as building construction materials, products and methods. ICC certificate holders may obtain ICC CEUs from Preferred Providers that can be applied toward the renewal requirements of ICC’s certification program. It is the intent of OBOA that all classes offered at institutes will be approved for the Preferred Provider Program.

An ICC CEU is a continuing education unit; each 10 clock hours of continuing education equals 1 CEU. Our typical one-day seminar has 6 hours of instruction, or 0.6 CEUs. Credit is awarded for a variety of activities wherein the objective is achieving relevant professional knowledge beyond that required for initial certification. Participation in all OBOA courses are approved for International Code Council (ICC) certification renewal continuing education credits as noted for each class. Please check with your appropriate jurisdiction and/or institution regarding your specific continuing education credit needs.

Each class is approved for CEUs through the International Code Council and is given a unique course number. OBOA will submit rosters to ICC following the session as tracked per the sign in and sign out procedure announced during class. It is the responsibility of each registrant to renew and/or upload proof of attendance as appropriate for maintaining certifications.
