Class Description
This course provides an overview of the latest safety provisions related to fire alarm detection and signaling and emergency communication demands. The building and fire code requirements based on occupancy classification for automatic and manual systems and other scoping provisions related to fire alarms will be presented. This will be followed by coverage of NFPA 72 installation, performance, inspection, testing and maintenance of fire alarm systems and fire systems components. This will include the identification of alarm testing, maintenance of fire alarm systems and identification of fire alarm elements on building plans.
Class begins promptly at 8:30 am and ends by 4:00 pm and offers six hours of ICC continuing education units/credit. A hot breakfast and lunch, all-day coffee and refreshments will be provided to registered attendees.
Learning Objectives
Provide Safety provisions that relate to IFC Section 907, Fire Alarm, Detection, Signaling and Emergency Communications. Explain the intent, why fire alarm systems are required and discuss NFPA 72 in the 2019 Edition. Also discuss the installation, inspection, testing and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be better able to:

- Fire Alarm and Detection Systems
- Explanation and importance of why fire alarm systems are required
- Identify key requirements NFPA 72 related to installation
- Explanation of the importance of why fire alarm systems are quired
- Identify key requirements NFPA 72 related to installation; inspection; and testing and maintenance of fire systems and components.
About our Presenter
Terrell Stripling is a seasoned instructor creating a learning environment that engages his audience to provide an informative and interesting classroom experience. He has been an instructor for 26 years with code enforcement, fire service and construction experience that brings building code and fire code to a “real world” application. Terrell has served on the UL Fire Council, as a department chair and adjunct professor at the Community College Level. He is a graduate from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology. He is an excellent communicator and skilled in both face-to-face and virtual setting. Terrell was the 2009 ICC Instructor of the year.

ICC certificate holders must obtain a specified number of CEUs every three years in order to maintain their certifications and a portion of these CEUs must be obtained through Preferred Provider or ICC training.
